ImpactX Demo Night Wrap Up: innovative health solutions on display

ImpactX 2023 Cohort

Last week, the ImpactX Demo Night was held at the Western Sydney Startup Hub where 11 teams pitched their innovative health solutions to a packed crowd.

-----------

In partnership with Investment NSW and building upon UNSW Founders’ highly successful Health 10x Accelerator program, last night we celebrated the Demo Night of the ImpactX Pre-Accelerator program at the Western Sydney Startup Hub.

The Impact X Pre-Accelerator is a unique program aimed at nurturing the next generation of for-impact businesses with founders coming culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD) and aiming to address unmet health needs of marginalised and under-represented communities. With 51% of Australian being either first- or second-generation Australians, there is a pressing need to do more for CALD communities and there is a clear gap in today’s entrepreneurship offerings.

11 teams presented their impactful solutions to improve lives for people with disabilities, mental health conditions, chronic diseases and even broken bones. What stood out were the powerful stories that founders shared and their passion when it comes to providing health solutions for their communities in a culturally appropriate way. Our founders have backgrounds from Afghanistan, Iran, Nigeria, China, Palestine, Vietnam and more and were working on solutions ranging from devices to software, apps and training programs.

The ImpactX 2023 Teams:

  • Blosun's Foundation: Promoting mental health awareness in western Sydney.

  • Elate: Empowering individuals with disabilities by pairing them with innovative students to co-create life-enhancing solutions.

  • EmpoweredSupport: Training programs for support workers to improve community assistance quality.

  • Ignite: Practice management System that streamlines communication among clinicians, educators and parents of children with special needs, addressing language barriers and fragmentation.

  • Mosaic Health: Addressing fall-related fatalities in Australia's elderly CALD population through inclusive healthcare solutions.

  • MCCOM Thrive: Aims to boost cultural safety in GP services, reducing burnout and improving health outcomes.

  • SheNovates_X: Helping both newly arrived Afghan women in Australia and Afghan women back in Afghanistan to start their own business and become financially independent.

  • SmartPoly: Developing 3D printable materials to replace bone defects, improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

  • TeenWell: One-stop platform facilitates tele-psychology support for culturally diverse youth in Australia.

  • Toastie: Leveraging machine learning to empower Australians with chronic illnesses to manage their health.

  • Zenny: Creating a device to alleviate anxiety symptoms.

Through the program, participants were given the necessary tools, guidance and support to validate their ideas, explore sustainable business models tailored for social enterprises and pitch/communicate their solutions to their stakeholders.

By offering access UNSW Founders extensive mentorship, resources, and a network of like-minded individuals and organisations, we empowered these teams to scale their efforts and reach the communities that need them most.

Thanks to the generous support of Investment NSW, UNSW Founders was able to offer this program free of charge to founders and innovators.
