To gain access to the UNSW Makerspace Network users need to earn access Badges. Badging is how we ensure UNSW Making users have the skills to safely and efficiently use our network of materials, machines and spaces.

Makerspace Induction

This essential Makerspace Badge is a ground-up introduction to using and understanding equipment, tools, and methodologies. Learn how to safely and effectively use hand and power tools in everyday situations.

Digital Fabrication Badge

Learn practical Digital Fabrication skills in this 90 minute group badge training session designed for students studying within the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture. For students within other faculties (e.g. Engineering) please head to the following page here for training and access to machines.

Arduino (basic) Badge

Arduino introduction and basics, using an online simulator and learning basic programming language. This session will run online using Zoom using Tinkercad, an Arduino emulator.

From Makerspace to Peter Farrell Cup and Startup

These skills lead to real world impact. Yellowbox, a smart locker system, was born out of the Makerspace. After pitching their idea at the Peter Farrell Cup and placing second Yellowbox went on to join our Accelerator program where they gained seed investment of $20,000! Hard work pays off. Yellowbox now has 40,000+ bookings with their app, 12,000+ users and has partnered with many institutions including the NSW Government.
